Creating Positive Impact Through Blood Donation

Creating Positive Impact Through Blood Donation

By Jenilyn Sadiasa

Singapore is currently facing a shortage of blood supply, and the need for blood donations has never been more urgent. According to Singapore Red Cross and Health Science Authority (HSA), Group O blood stocks have dipped below 6 days and are currently at critical levels due to high usage of these blood types and lower than normal blood donor turnout since the beginning of 2024.

24asia collaborated with various partners such as Red Cross Singapore, Healthserve, The Majurity Trust, and Temasek Foundation OSCAR to address this issue and make a positive impact in the community throughout the years.

Recently, 24asia organized the Blood Donation Drive catalysed by Temasek Foundation, OSCAR and in partnership with Singapore Red Cross was a huge success.

The support and commitment shown by the migrant community in the Blood Donation Drive is truly commendable. It is heartening to see the community come together to address a critical need and make a difference in the lives of those who rely on blood transfusions for their health and well-being.

As the shortage of blood continues to be a pressing issue in Singapore, initiatives like the Blood Donation Drive organized by 24asia and its partners play a crucial role in raising awareness and encouraging more people to donate blood regularly. By working together, we can ensure that there is an adequate supply of blood to meet the needs of patients in hospitals and medical facilities across the country.

Through our work, 24asia was awarded the Singapore Community Engagement Initiative Award by Singapore Patient Award on 18 October 2023.

Blood donation drives provide an opportunity for migrants and locals to come together for a common cause. These drives not only contribute to the local blood supply but also facilitate meaningful conversations and understanding between different individuals. Through the act of donating blood, migrants and locals share a sense of empathy and compassion, regardless of their backgrounds. This initiative strengthens the bond between migrants and locals, creating a sense of unity and solidarity. 24asia also creates waves of volunteers who continuously donate their blood throughout the year.

In conclusion, the recent Blood Donation Drive in Singapore was a testament to the power of collaboration and community spirit. It is a reminder that by coming together and supporting each other, we can overcome challenges and make a positive impact on the lives of others. Let us continue to support blood donation efforts and work towards building a healthier and more resilient society for everyone.
